Hey ALL!! I just joined also. I have been doing a lot of researching lately on Travel Companies, and just so happened to run across this site. How great is it to talk to REAL NURSES that have ACTUALLY worked with these companies!?! I have read many responses to others' questions and have learned a lot, but still so much to learn.
So, about me...I just turned 24, have been a LPN for 5 years now. Reside in Heart of it All OHIO, with my family. (Mom is LPN too-had same nursing instructor as me). I love surgical (acute) care, have spent a year in Ortho/Neuro, but mostly general surgeries. I have plans to finish my at home program for my RN as soon as I possibly can. 3 Siblings, all younger, look up to me of course...(don't do the same mistakes as me!! HA HA!) Sister, 21, studying Business at local college; Brother 18, College in California, playing Football 6'6" lineman (may be eliglible for Division 1 after 2006 season-Go BUCKS!!!); and baby sister 17, Senior in HS, studying Patient Care Technician, but hopes of going into Radiology or Forensic Studies (still unsure) also plays sports- Softball since age 5.

Well, anyone that has any advice on traveling (companies, locations, etc) for LPNs is greatly appreciated.

    Happy Holidays to ALL!

    Hi,
I've wanted to go into nursing since 1992 but never found the opportunity until a few years ago. I hope to learn a lot on this site from your experiences. I'm just starting my Junior year in a BSN program and so far it has been rewarding. Hope it stays that way. :wink2:
    Thanks for the welcome!

    Hello,
Iam new to this sight. I live in SanAntonio,Texas and I work as an RN in the cath lab holding area. I have 2 boys
ages 3 and 5. Both are hanging on me right now so I appolagize if my grammar is bad...I can't think!!!! I am interested in talking to anyone with children who have autism. My 5 year old has high functioning autism and I could use any advice, especially dealing with his school system.....what a nightmare that has been. I hope to hear from anyone who can relate. RM
A friend of mine has two kids (19 and 21 I think) with autism (think it is high function) - they have to be supervised in the same room when they are awake, but can communicate fairly well, they are good kids! don't know about giving any advice, people say that "God won't give you any more than you can handle."

Well I discovered about a year ago that he does NOT expect us to ever handle everything alone - that is why He gave us friends and family to call on, people with the gift of being able to help your son (my friend tells me about the nightmares with the schools, YIKES!!!). Don't feel bad if you are not "the one" who is there all the time (guilt is a predominant feeling), but know that the quality of your time together is so important. You and he will appreciate that more than time spent being overwhelmed and shortchanged.

My son was special needs in school too, depression/bipolar and ADD - tons of behavioral issues. He's doing so so - just started a job and the previous two only lasted two weeks. We shall see.

I think the biggest thing is the child knowing he or she is so loved and precious. Hard to do when frustrations build up, so don't let them build up. I found a lot of help with self-care, not burning out, from Al-anon, the principles are terrific, but I know too there are support groups around for parents of kids with special needs. You too have "special needs" and probably need more time for yourself away from it all than can be easily achieved! But 5 minutes here, 5 there, to just deeeep breathe slowly, read a chapter in a book or devotional, thumb thru a mag and not really look at it, just space out for a minute. Being "on" 24/7 especially with the demands of nursing, the demands on your personal space and energy - WHOOO! hard I can imagine.

I wish you many blessings and happiness!
