Another nervous newbie!

  1. Hi everyone!

My name is Pam and I'm 43 years old. I am in school right now to become an LPN. I am a published writer, also, and this is a complete change of career for me.

I decided to go back to school to become a nurse because I have volunteered for a few years at a nursing home and loved it. When the opportunity to go to nursing school came up, I jumped on it.

Now I'm a bit nervous about it. Will I be able to learn all there is to learn about nursing? I make good grades and I'm a very compassionate person. I am a good listener, too. Nobody scares me, I'm a huge people person. I can have a conversation with anyone.

But I worry that, at my age, I won't have the time to become an excellent nurse. Any thoughts or words of encouragement?

Hi Pam! Welcome. I understand your apprehension as I too have the same ones. I am 41 and just finishing up my pre-reqs. I have applied to a 2 year RN program and will know whether or not I got in towards the end of May. I wonder if this is a huge mistake at my age, but I feel it so strongly in my heart, that I just have to give it a go.

Keep in touch and good luck!

    All the best,

    Vicky

You can be an excellent nurse from day one. A novice one for sure, but an excellent one nonetheless. Don't worry about your age.

    Good luck! Welcome to Allnurses!
