Ton of Questions...just one for now...

Greetings all! I am a 43 y/o male looking to change my career path to nursing, with the ultimate goal of becoming a CRNA before I am 50. I think (OK...I know, I know) I went in the wrong direction early on and ended up with a M.Ed. instead of shooting for what my dream really was...the "health care" industry.

My question is this... In all of your honest and respected opinions, do you think I have a snowball's chance in hell of getting there? My desire is there, my drive is alive, and I really want to make this happen.

Thanks!
Jim

Why wouldn't you have a chance? As long as you have to commitment and dedication, then the only thing to stop you is yourself. Just have faith and confidence in yourself and you will get there. Just don't get discouraged, never give in, and never give up! As NIKE says, "Just do it!" Good luck!

Nightwolf...

Thanks for the reply... I have a ton of confidence, just not up to speed on the nursing issues right now. From what I have been reading, it looks like the recession is taking it's toll on the industry. I really have a ton of questions for you guys in the field... I'd really love to continue discussing some things before I sign on the dotted line with UCO in Oklahoma.

Thanks!
Jim

It really depends on what area of the country you are wanting to work at. Here in the southwest, jobs are plentiful and it seems like we are always short on our unit. So don't give up hope! The jobs are out there, just have to know where to look for them.

If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask. That's what this site is all about.

Welcome and good luck

Yes there is a chance you will get there especially if driven just may be a few hurdles that get in your way but no reason to fail just cross the hurdles as they appear

The hardest part is getting that first job, but even that can be overcome if you are open to relocating to where the jobs are. Good luck with school.

Relocating won't be an issue. I'm retired Air Force and used to moving around....if you know what I mean.

Welcome.

I am thrilled for you! There is a 63 year old woman in my nursing class. Also a friend of mine, at 50, just started in med school. I am 42 and in my first semester of NS.

Yay to second careers (or third or fourth).

It'll keep you young.
