Seeking Anticoagulation Nurses or HC members

HI!!!!!
I'm an LPN from Kansas City. I specialize in anticoagulation and it! I'm seeking other nurses or healthcare providers in this same niche area of nursing to compare notes with.

If you are in the AV field send me a message and lets get to know each other.

Best Wishes,
T

I am also an LPN who used to work in the Coumadin Clinic until a few months ago. Now, when you say anticoagulation specialist, is that what you are referring to, or is there a sort of certification that an LPN can receive? If so, let me know!

There is a certificate, on-line program that you can take through USI (university of Southern Indiana) called Anticoagulation Therapy Management Certificate Program. This is a 6 week on-line course. Here is the link: http://health.usi.edu/certificate/an...iontherapy.asp. You would receive a certificate when completed. Currently, LPN's are not allowed to sit for the National Test. If allowed to test and pass, we would have the credentials of CACP (Certified Anticoagulation Provider). While I was at the Anticoagulation Forum 10th National Conference in San Diego(May6-9), I spoke to a key staff member at the CACP to discuss LPN's being allowed to sit for the National Test. A fellow LPN and AC nurse also, are working on getting this changed. We feel that their are probably more LPN's running AC/protime clinics nationally then that of RN's or PharmD's.

Personally, I think if a nurse is in a niche field such as anticoagulation for a period of time, that he or she is a "specialist" in that arena. Particularly if you do much research, training, outside seminars/conferences/CME's in that field. What do you think?

This is one reason why I want a site focused on AC nursing. There isn't anything out there. I'm spending hours and hours researching specific topics related to AC care.

I would love any feedback....

Thanks!

How much is the on line course? I just read the information and did not use the option to pay on line because it did not show a price. But, I would certainly take the class, anyhow...I am interested in the Fall, 2009 arrangement. Is there alot of coursework involved? Explain all that you can...I am excited already. Thanks for sharing!

The online course is $500. Generally, employers will reimburse staff that take and pass the course. Perhaps you could bring it up and see?

My friend Amy took the course and passed it. She said it was challenging particully r/t heparin use.

If you are really interested I could get you the contact person's name and number...?

I am interested. I am just trying to assess how involved it is...is there a certain time that you have to be logged on to participate in the class,or is it totally self study? Are there assignments or just exams? And, are you allowed to retake if you don't earn the certification? Yes, you can pass along any information you wish to. It might be better to send it as a PM or Private Message, since you are actually sending the name and number of an individual for privacy issues.
