A Newbie's Nursing Questions

Hi Everybody!!!

I'm new to the site and I'm already hooked on it! I just wanted to get a chance to network with like minded ppl and get some questions answered about the nursing career. So right now I'm in my second year of college and my major is pre-nursing. I debated for a long time on whether I wanted to be pre-med or pre-nursing and finally decided to go with nursing which was my first love...lol. When I finish school I would love to get a job working as a pediatric nurse or somewhere in the NICU. Is there anything that I could be doing as far as classes or activites that could help me out in the long run for this major? I've heard that I should volunteer at a Children's Hospital and work on getting my CNA to get some on the job experience. Do any of you have any other suggestions as far as this goes? And also, I've been doing some searching for a college/university in the southern states of the U.S that has a great nursing program for a transfer student..if you know of any it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks In Advance for your comments and suggestions,
Brianna

Hi Brianna, welcome to allnurses!

Volunteering is always a good way to get your foot in the door at a place you want to eventually work. As far as schools, I would do research on finding a school in an area you want to live and that doesn't have too long of a wait list. Then get in touch with them and start the transfer process.

Good luck to you, I wish you the best!
