I'm 51 and about to start my second semester in the BSN program. I try not to think about the age thing either. I've met a lot of great people in my classes. Although everyone of them are younger than me, I've made many new friends. In addition, they along with the nursing faculty are very supportive.

I'm 51 and going strong in the BSN program. I try not to let age be a factor. Although I've always thought about being a nurse the timing never seemed right. Now it does! I don't care how many years I actually get to work as a nurse. I will at least know that I accomplished a long time goal and dream.

I think it is great that you are going back I just turned 54 and I just started the RN program I will be doing it at home I had always said that I would stay an LVN I didn't want to go back but I have found that I really need to and I really want to. I am a full time agency nurse and I love it a lot of the RN's that I work with keep telling me I should go back and get my RN degree I had my reservations about going back but they gave me a lot of encouragement.
Hope you have a great day

Very admirable DewB! Yes, like you said, there will be some tough times and you might wonder why you're doing it (like many of us probably did), but it will be worth it. It sounds like you already know this though. And btw, we're never too old or too young to learn and pursue your passion/dream

Go for it! I decided to change careers after 17 in education. I really don't think I would have had what it takes if I tried this route way back when. I am now a new grad from the vocational nursing program. I enjoyed the challenge of learning and I am looking forward to get my RN degree in the future. I'll probably be 47 by the time I get finished. But for now i'm happy to be a licensed vocational nurse.

Do not believe them!!! Really good nurses are hard to find no matter what the age. I knew a nurse who alot of people didn't care for ...but I did .She was an older nurse in her fifties and I was in my twenties. She was in management, which is probably why they did not care for her. However this lady worked 40 hrs a week. For years I respected this lady and her big brass kahunas. One day I worked at another hospital and found out that she ...allll this many years worked one day on the week-end at another hospital ...she worked the floor I know she did this in part to keep her skills up and my respect grew even more for her. So do not let anyone tell you you are too old. to do anything. You are able to do it and personally I am telling you to go for it. You will not regret it if your heart is true.
