Hi all. I have just completed my first week in LPN school and have to come here to learn from you.
I figure that you can help me get acquainted with the day in and day out life of a nurse. The information that I can gather here will certainly be a resource for me as I enter the field.
A little about me. I am a 41 year old male, married, and father of 2 beautiful adopted children. Up till now I have been a warehouse worker for Sherwin Williams Co. and held a number of non professional jobs over the years.
I decide last year that it was time for change. I have always had an interest in health. I have been a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and held CPR/First Aid certs for many years. Upon re-evaluating my life, I examined my interests and personality and decided that my caring nature could be used best in nursing. In addition, my returning to school is excellent role modeling for my 2 young children.
I hope to go on to RN school next fall. I have been hearing it is better to go into a hospital based RN program vs. community college based programs due to wait times for clinicals. I'll have to look at that closer over the coming months. I hope I can find something locally because the closest Hosp based RN program is too far away for daily commuting.
Anyway, I look forward to learning here what I won't in school. Thanks in advance for any insight you can offer me in discussions I participate in.
