New category for a Nurse Specialty?

Anyone else out there an Aesthetic Nurse Specialist?

My background was High Risk L&D. I decided to change my focus after MANY years of practice.

I now work as an Independent Contractor. I am Certified in Aesthetic Services, and do Laser treatments, Botox, Collagen, Sclerotherapy, IPL treatments, etc. for several Dermatologists. The problem I am having is finding malpractice insurance, much less workman's comp. If you ask NSO, they do not cover independent contractors, certainly not doing what I do.

Any help ANYONE can give me regarding other Malpractice Insurance companies to try would be greatly appreciated.
I LOVE what I do!!!!
Thanks,
LaserRN

There are several companies in Southern California that deal with insurance for people like you. Can't think of any of their names off hand but you can
contact American Institute of Micropigmentation. I am actually a certified Derma-tech and used to have a clinic specializing in repigmenting skin, tatooing nipples after surgery, etc. Just not sure which agencies are still providing coverage in your area.

Good luck!!! :hatparty:

Hi- I think what you are doing is awesome! I am a nurse in Indiana, about an hour away from Chicago. I would LOVE to do the same type of cosmetic treatments you do. How did you get started and trained? Did you contactlocal M.D.'s to work in their practice? I would appreciate any helpful information. Thanks again. Ashley

Hi, I have been in this field for about 5 years now. I got my training from a company called the Eclectic Skin Institute. They are no longer in business, but one of the original partners has her own company called the Esthetic Skin Institute.
I currently work with a Cosmetic Dermatologist in Newport Beach, Ca. I also teach for the company I named above. I am a little biased of course, but I think the classes are wonderful. They will teach you how to find an MD to work with and you will be prepared to start your new career.
Hope that helps! :flowersfo
