Just joined allnurses.com new grad RN at LTC

Hi everyone,
I'm so glad to see this site where nurses are willing to help nurses. I just graduated with an ADN and started orientation at my first job in a LTC facility that has a lot of psych patients, sub-acute, hospice and LTC. I will be working PRN variable shifts. I have had 3 days orientation and everyone is so excited that I show up each day. I guess a lot of people run when they hear how high the patient ratio is. My thoughts on the high patient ratio is that if this company has managed to stay in business for 50 years, this ratio must work. I am really looking forward to the experience because I will get such a wide variety of experience, including wound care, psych, hospice and geriatric. I love these patients already and pray that they remain safe on my watch. I'm am really slow as I am having to look up meds, needed med orders clarified, looking up procedures for applying wound-vacs etc. Any words of wisdom are greatly appreciated...I'm a late bloomer, my children are in high school and college and this is my first job is 17 years.
Blessings to all of you who work so hard to keep patients safe and make a difference in their care

Welcome!!

Please take some time to check out our Site Map which lets you know what forums are available and where they are located. We even have forums specifically for nurses working in all areas of long-term care that might interest you (Geriatric and Long-term Care Nursing, MDS Coordinator, CNA Discussions, Directors of Nursing and so on), as well as First Year After Nursing Licensure and Graduate Nurse Discussions for the newcomer to our profession.

Again, thanks for joining. We're glad you're here!
