I'm new to this site and Nursing in general.

Hello, as the title says, I'm new to this site and nursing, I'm not even a student yet (Hopefully that will change come January.)
And I have a rather big problem... I have no idea what kind of nursing would be the best for me... So is there a kind of "general" nursing that I could start out in until I figure out what I want? Or do I really need to know before I even start school?
And if you don't mind, could you post what your job is and perhaps just a little bit about what you do?

As a student you will work in many different areas and may not even find your niche until qualified a few years and moved around a few jobs.

Welcome and good luck

Thanks a bunch for the welcomes, and thanks for the advice, its very reassuring. I was kind of starting to freak out about this since school is drawing ever closer.

Welcome! I'm new here as well. You'll get to experience many different areas while in nursing school. That should give you some kind of an idea on where you want to start your career. After you get a job, you learn from that and either decide to stay, or take a different path. That's the best thing about nursing. I have been in OB since I graduated over 13 years ago. Mainly did mother/baby nursing. Now I'm looking into switching to peds. I'm scared to death! But I'm looking forward to learning a new area. Best of luck!!

Don't fret! During your clinicals, you do "rotations" in the hospital to see what specialty might interest you. There's so many avenues to go down as a nurse and I'm sure your school will help you find the right one for you.

Good luck - from one nursing student to another!
