I have so many Questions !

Updated Jun 22, 2009 at 02:30 PM by LaShonnie

Greetings !! I have worked @ the University California San Diego in LaJolla for 14 years as a study coordinator /research assistant I'm currently at the Moores Cancer Center. I recently decided to go to nursing school my desire was to get my RN but there are no evening programs . I work fulltime so I opted to do LVN course at night@ Kaplan college.$30K Three things make it appealing inspite of the price 1. it is accelerated 2.no wait list and 3.evening course. for Entrance to program I had to take the Wonderlick about 50 questions then the Hesi A2 do a background check $65 drug test. now School starts soon just wondering if anyone eles out there went this route if so did you Graduate ? pass Teas ? get your License? are you working ? and what did you think about program ?

You might want to start a thread in the student forum for responses.

I would talk to staffing people where you work to see what they think of Kaplan's programs. Most HR people ive talked to dont have anything good to say about Kaplan. It would be a real shame to pay all the money, go through the stress of an accelerated program to find out that the degree is basically worthless. Do some more homework is my advice.

Post Note Re: I have so many Questions !
Thanks for your reply. It's actually a Diploma you receive for completion of Vocational Nursing program which then enables you to apply and take exam for your License I checked the board of nurses site and Kaplan ,Concorde and some other local schools are listed on the accredited list that they have. I've asked around work here and most of the nurses I work with did this so many many many ha ha years ago through the traditional college route that they dont know about Kaplan.

Thats why you need to talk to people who would be looking to hire you once you finish. My understanding is that in San Diego, there are entire hospital systems that will not hire a Kaplan grad as they are considered to be unprepared to the point of putting the patients in danger.
