Hey, how are you? :)

Hi! My name is Summer, and I just wanted to introduce myself. As a senior in high school, I am about to graduate! I am so excited, but over the past few years, I have been considering my options after high school. I have come to the conclusion that working as an RN is something that I have, actually, always wanted. Luckily, I have kept high grades throughout my high school career, and I'm moving on in the educational process. Beginning in the fall of 2009, I will officially be a college student! I can't believe that it is finally my time for this. : )
Anyways, to make a long story quite short, I am excited. While I will only be taking pre-requisites during my freshman year of college, I, surely, will be posting and asking plenty of questions for you all to answer. (Not as in "Gimme the answer!" : ) ) After all, what else could keep you busy? Basically, like I said earlier, I just want to say "Hi!" and ask for any comments/advice. I will be attending college in the pursuit of my ASN, so that I can work as an RN. During the summertime, I plan to sharpen my mathematical skills. However, should I refresh some of my science skills, as well? I am great at math in Algebra, but I have not learned any Pre-Calculus. Is this necessary? What types of science should I feel comfortable with before beginning college? In high school, I had the greatest math tutor. While she was a little expensive, she could teach me anything, and I am looking forward to working with her.
So, if any of you could reply to this, that would be the greatest thing! I know that nursing school will not be easy, and I will have to study hard, stay committed, and keep myself motivated. Inspire me with tips, advice, recommendations, opinions, comments, complaints? X)

--Summer ~

Welcome to the boards, I am a newbie myself. I would say for sure brush up on your Science Skills as you will most likely have to take, MicroBiology, Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2, in one of my schools we also had to take Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. I believe the math you have to just have a basic knowledge, my college now you just had to have like Elementary Algebra, my old school you had to have a statistics class. You will have to find out what your school requires. Then you also have Pathophysiology and Nutrition, for us we can take it during the Nursing Program but I am taking it now to lighten my load when I am in nursing school *this fall*.
ANyway, good luck to you in your new adventures

Don't worry about calculus. Nursing schools that have a math requirement, require a basic math course, usually the equivalent of intermediate algebra. If you want to attend a BSN program in the future, you should take statistics following college algebra. Most BSN programs require statistics. Check with the nursing programs you are considering to determine the exact math requirement. Also be aware that you will have to take a math and English placement exam to determine at what level you can start your college courses. You might be interested in our many forums for students. Good luck in school.
