hey everyone! a few questions?

by casey87

I'm new to everything about nursing. I plan on going to Pennsylvania Institute of Technology located in Media, Pa. A Phila. suburb. Classes begin the following next year, Jan 2010. I'm not sure exactly what to do first, I plan on going to call and schedule a tour but as far as tests and the actual acceptance, how does that work?

What test do I have to take to be accepted? The name of it, and what would be on it?

I'm new to everything, but I know this is what I want to do.

Any helpful information to a newbie would be greatly appreciated. ANY insight at all. I've learned so much just by reading tons of posts.

Hi casey87! I wanted to welcome you to allnurses and tell you that you are making a wonderful decision on your career path. I am currently a PN student at Pennsylvania Institute of Technology due to graduate December 09. The program is twelve months in length and costs $17,000 with uniforms and books included along with background checks etc. Before I applied to the program I went and talked to an admissions rep about the program and what I had to do to apply. You can call and schedule to meet with an admissions rep and that person will gladly explain to you what to do and also any other questions or concerns you may have.

The test you have to take is called the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) which consists of Math, Reading, Science, and English. After meeting with the admissions rep, she will give you the information on how to purchase a study guide and when to register for the test (registration is $40).

When I met with my admissions rep, she explained to me that it would be helpful if I had any medical background and that I might want to consider going into their AS Allied Health/LPN track, which would consist of a year of Allied Health and then transfer into the LPN program (if accepted). After you graduate from the LPN program, you will have an Associates degree and your basically guaranteed to go straight into Drexel's BSN program to become an RN. I opted not to go this route and instead took 3 courses during the spring semester of 08' part-time (BIO 103, ENG104, and Math 099) which I find now was very beneficial for the program especially the math. I registered for the TEAS and passed. Once I passed the TEAS, the program mailed a letter telling me what to do next. After that the director of the program scheduled an interview and maybe a month later I received an acceptance letter.

The PN program at P.I.T. is wonderful!!! The faculty are caring compassionate and there to help. The instructors are all nurses and really work with me to ensure my success in the program.

I wish you much luck and success and hope that you do choose P.I.T. as your school of choice because it really is an amazing and successful program. My class is the 3rd class to go through the LPN program so the faculty have improved and changed alot of things since the last 2 classes. From what I hear, the last class to graduate have already started taking their boards and so far have about and 89% pass rate.

If you have any other questions you can private message me and I'll be more than happy to answer any questions you may have!

Good Luck

Hi Casey, I'm looking into PIT's LPN program for January 2010 also. I met with an admissions counselor and had all my transcripts sent, I just have to set up a date/time to take the TEAS test, so hopefully if that goes well then I'll get in. I don't now how competitive the program is to get into, but hopefully its easier than DCCC. I was looking at your profile and I also graduated from O'hara as well, in 2005.

Hi Casey87,

I am also applying to PIT's Jan. 2010 LPN program...how far are you in the process? I just took the teas test last Sat. and yesterday I received a letter advising me that I am able to move on to the applications process...submit my highschool transcripts/college, etc. I'm confused though, because the letter also stated thay I am not guaranteed admission because the program is competetive?? I was hoping since you applied in June you could tell me if this is the normal process or not? I am really excited, and also nervous, I just hope i cna start in Jan.

Thanks!
