Hello Everyone... I am new.. be gentle!!!

Hello,
My name is April. I just thought I would tell you a bit about myself. I am NEW to nursing!! I just got hired on as a Nursing Assistant @Jackson Madison County General Hospital! Very nervous but really excited. August 24th is my orientation. I just graduated from an online school, Allied Health Institute. I am a Certified EKG tech! But now NO ONE is hiring around my area for an EKG tech. I have been wanting to get into nursing for about a year now, hoping that the EKG course would be a foot in the door. And it was! I did my clinicals at JMCGH, so I put in my application and they wanted me as a nursing assistant. I gladly accepted and see it as a my FIRST big step towards my nursing career! They train me, certify me, go through them for my CPR classes and even have there own clinic for employees (Can you tell this is my first time as a hospital employee...LOL). I am so happy that I chosen this path, I now it will be difficult and frustrating, but I HAVE THREE KIDS, I can handle it!! LOL

Anyways, I live in a VERY small town called Burlison here in TENNESSEE! Actually to better help you pinpoint it, the Mississippi River is about a mile in my back yard! I live up high on the river bluff! As I mentioned before, I have three kids, Phillip 12, Abigail 7, and Emily 4. I have a loving husband, Dale, who supports me 110%!! I live about an hour away from the hospital! I chose to "drive" that far, because I felt safer than going to Memphis TN! LOL

Thanks to all that read this LONG story! I hope to have many adventure along the way to share!

That's really cool. I'm considering taking the same online EKG course with Allied Health as well. It's good to hear a success story.

Welcome, Welcome...glad you are one of us. It seems like you started in a very good way. before I went to school for nursing I also did EKG and Phlebotomy hoping to get my foot. But did not get ANYTHING! furstrated I went to school full time for nursing , now I am RN and start my first ever big job in November.
Putting the EKG and Phlebotomy in my resume really helps. The floor I am working is now telemetry, we have a lot of Cardiac pts who needs a constant EKG. The manager thought that, it is wonderful that I am certified in that area. And of course need to draw blood any floor (most times anyways) so phlebotomy helps as well.

Anyway, good luck to you, any kind of skill will help boost your resume and increases your chance of getting hired.

so keep up the good work! Don't be a stranger! wow! you live by the river! I live in NY , all I see is bulidings, peoples and attached houses! people hardly drive, hard to find parking anyway, 24 hour subway is the way!good luck!
