From welder to nurse

Hello All,

I posted a few times already and just discovered the (New Intro Thread) so,
I wanted to at least give a proper introduction.

I'm 35 and in the process of changing careers. Hopefully this spring I can begin
nursing school. I work as a pipewelder and am overseas doing a project right
now. Welding has been good to me but, it's dangerous and my eyes are not
going to last forever doing this.

Looking forward to a new change in my life. Hope to make some friends on this
board.

Vinterdag

Hello and welcome. I can relate...I used to be a machine operator but the repetitive motions with my hands were starting to take a toll on me. My first love was always nursing. Currently I'm a CNA and 32. Hopefully soon I may be able to go back to school and get my lpn license.

Glad to have you join us here at allnurses! Where overseas are you? I've always heard there is good money in welding, especially underwater welding! Looking forward to your posts!

Currently I am living/working in the country of Norway. It's very beautiful
here with the high mountains and deep fjords.

Yes, there are some great paying welding jobs. (There's a lot they don't
tell you ) Underwater welding pays great but, that is only while your
suited up and under water. The other 80% of the time when your just
on the platform the pay is less...a lot less.

If you all want me to check I can see how much nurses get paid here in
Norway. The minimum wage right now is $18 an hour. Thats what the
kids in McDonalds are making

Your not alone...Changing careers here too...38 and leaving the IT industry. Of course due to mortgage/kids and time frame I'm researching the LPN options. My plan is to attend an LPN program then find a job while I work thru an online program to become a RN.

Welcome Vinterdag and will see ya on the boards...
