I am a nurse at a large AL/PC/LTC Facility! I am the only nurse on 3-11. I have approximately 75 residents and 4 CNAs that i supervisor. I have 4 floors that I rountinely travel every night. I do everything and I am tried and looking for another option for nursing. The state regs. are mind blogging and the politics of management and money, money ties up my hands so many time to get the proper care for my residents has me wanting to quit nursing. BUT the salary is good, but at this point I am ready to give it up, for something more meaningful. But hospital really don't want LPNs anymore just the RN. I am thinking of just working for a doctor at low pay, mon thru fri, wkens and holidays, off! I truely believe these facility don't appreciate their nurses. Can you tell I am frustrated. How do you feel?

Hi Sierralee don,t have any answer to your question but I sympathies and must warn you to be very careful before leaving your position because its like you said the hospitals and I find nursing homes too are not hiring LPNs every body seems to need RNs I am in Ohio also and is finding it very diffficult to get into any of these ficillities and working for the agencies are not easy either I find going into an unknown ficillaty to work espically covering split floors is very tasking so I know four floors have to be mindbloggling. I am from New York where I worked in a Nursing home for 19 years ,there was only 40 patents on a unit and in the good days there was always two nurses on, at 3-11 shift, in the last few years things change somewhat and on some unit only one nurse was left on the unit but she would have a level 2 cna to assist with somethings, but we never have to cover more than one unit so you can see how hard I am finding it here espically when i am working blindly

Forgot to tell you I am from Western PA. about 1/2 from north of Pgh. I totally agree about not much out there. I have been searching at least 3 different newspaper a day and there is nothing for LPNs except LTC and they are few. I have put out approximately 5 to 6 resumes already, some physician' office and a few visiting nurse assoc. I would love to hear from from any visiting nurses out there on their thoughts on their jobs. I am still hoping there is something out there for LPNs beside LTC. I have a very extended background, including office manager, billing, CPT,/ICD coding, i have worked in family practice and worked in pediatrics. Anyway enough about me. What are your questions, I would be curious to see if your state reqs. are like PA. wouldn't you love to know how those people got their jobs and how they come up with some of those reqs, sometimes I feel they weren't thinking when they place them on paper. LOL
