American in Norway

Hi everybody,
I'm an American that just started nursing school in Norway. I'm in my first year and I found this site trying to find some information for my fundamentals of nursing exam. Thanks for the great tips and information. I just finished the test and I think it went well. There is a totally different way of educating over here and it's a little frustrating. Be proud Americans, it seems that America requires more out of their students than Norway does. I really hope that I will be a competent nurse when I finish.

Smiles from across the ocean!

HI Norway!

How interesting, I have been coming to this website for sometime and today joined. I wish I would have done sooner.
I lived in Norway some years back and wanted to work as a nurse, I am an RN. I was told I would need to take some classes and I would have to speak Norwegian proficiently. At any rate, I am back here in the midwest.

I was wondering if you would like to stay intouch as I know Norway is one of most beautiful places on this earth.

I understand if this is something your are not interested in. I would like to know more how nursing has changed in Norway and if they still do their yearly protest down town Oslo for salary increases as some of the transportation systems do.

My name is Terry, am female and old enough to be your mom, but at any rate I am 3rd generation Norwegian born in US on both my maternal and paternal sides.

Hope to hear from you.
Thanks for your time !!

Hi Terry,

Yes, I would like to stay in touch, although my replies may be sporadic. I just graduated this year from the nursing program, so I have a rather limited view of the way nursing is around here, but I can tell you what I know. I haven't started working as a nurse yet (still unsure if I want to...). But I am currently working at the hospital as a transcriptionist, so I am still in close contact with the nursing environment.
As for the yearly protest in Oslo for salary increases, I haven't heard that people actually march in the streets, but I do know that the national nursing union is still trying to get a salary increase.
Norway is a beautiful country and I am thankful everyday that I am so privileged to live here. Do you plan on making another visit? Do you know any Norwegian? What part of Norway is your family from?

My name is Krystal and I have no Norwegian blood in my family. Feel free to ask any questions you like!

Gode hilsener (Warm greetings)
Krystal
