34 and just starting out.

Hi I am new to this board and in January I will be a LPN nursing student. I have been trying relentlessly to get into the RN program at the school that I did most of my pre-reqs but I keep on hitting a brick wall as far as getting into the program is concerned. Each year they have some new requirement. 1 year it was Algebra, the next year it was Chemistry, I have both those things and still have problems getting in. I decided to send multiple applications elsewhere and got into a trade school called Medical Professional Institute www.mpi.edu. I passed the NET and was interviewed several times before they made there decision. I am kind of leary now because it is only ABHES accredidated not National Nursing Accredidated. Are my concerns valid? I mean I am grateful I got this far but what if I can't pursue my RN after becoming a LPN through a trade school?

check with your BOARD OF NURSING for your state, go to state website and check and see
1] if this school graduates are qualified to sit for nclex
2] what are the percentage of students pass nclex on first try

be very careful before entering into a contract with anyone

check with the students from your state, click on student tab at top of this page

good luck

Deemarys.....are you attending MPI? I was waitlisted at another school and I was thinking of applying there since it starts in January but the pending accreditation makes me nervous. I want to bridge to RN after and I heard that the courses wont transfer and I'll have to start from scratch - did the school tell you anything about that? Also, do you like the program/clinicals? Thanks!

Well at least you are getting started and not 54 (like me) and trying to complete my nursing classes for my RN! Pat yourself on the back for that. Believe me, there are many that wish they could get started.

If it helps I'm 38(male) with a CIS (Computer Information System) degree and seriously considering a career change into Nursing. I've spent 15 years getting several worthless Microsoft/Cisco certifications too... Sorry, the IT industry is not what it use to be. However, outsourcing of IT jobs is what brought me here. All the data I have collect keeps leading me back to nursing. Nursing to me is helping others and job security! In my opinion you can't go wrong in this field. Is it hard work? I'm sure it is very hard work indeed and probably very satisfying too. Stick with it!
