Taking IELTS is the next sensible step. If you're already confident in your English vocabulary and competency, all you need is to enroll in either BC or IDP workshop and at the same time, schedule your exam. Then, take it.

After passing IELTS, apply for Visa Screen...and then off you go job/sponsor hunting!

yes as stated above you next step is your english proficiency exam, since your in makati the nearest one is the IDP, there are lot of review center for IELTS but i advise you, since review center only offers minimun of 7days review, you better practice by your own the drills of each subtest. there are lot of practice materials available at the bookstore and for listening better start tuning to the CNN or BBC, goodluck

There is a sticky at the top of this forum called the Primer at gives all of the information that you need for working in the US and what is required.

Please be aware that you can find an employer now and start the petitioning process, however, you are still looking at a few year wait for even a chance at getting a visa for the US, there is no longer any fairly good guarantee that all that pass the NCLEX exam will be able to get a green card. Number of applicants far exceeds the number of visas per year.

And by engaged in a hospital, do you mean that you have been hired by them or are currently working there? That term is not used in the US for talking about working somewhere but for being engaged to be married, or the telephone line is engaged because it is busy, etc. But we never use it to speak of a work related relationship with a facility. Justy pointing this out to you as you prepare for your English exams.

mam can i start the peritioning process without passing the nclex first? can i tell them that the result of such an exam would be sent to their office as soon as it is released?

with the word engange.. i use such because i am aware that one of its meaning is to "hire for work or assistance". mam you may check the net for this meaning. and also in the oxford american dictionary, it is defined as, "to take into one's employment or to occupy oneself". the meaning as stated in my previous statement was universal in nature and is not limited to those use in our country. anyway, thanks!

errm thought you had already passed NCLEX. Petition can not be started unless you have passed either NCLEX or CGFNS exam and to be honest employers would prefer a pass in NCLEX before offering petition especially now with retrogression plus a lot of hospitals are delaying taking on foreign nurses at the moment. If you mean before taking English exam then yes the petition can start before you pass it

It matters not what dictionary's say not everyone uses them plus I would say engage as in work is very old fashioned and I know in the UK is not used, employed is the word to use. I would say for English exams you need to be clear on what you are saying and listening to, many words have many meanings and you need to be clear on which one you use.

You don't need to tell them anything, you arrange and pay any fees for the results to be forwarded to ICHP the same as the NCLEX results from your BON. Be aware though that you have to complete everything within 12 months so I would say pass your English exam first and then start the process, but end decision is with you

You posted last month that you had passed the NCLEX exam, so why now are you asking if you did not pass it?

And I highly recommend that you use the English language as everyone else does if you plan to take the series of English exams, or you will be marked down on the speaking section. We have not used "engaged" in work terms for over a hundred years or so. Formal expressions like that are not used commonly, and will not benefit you at all in preparing for an exam. And it is not universal in nature at all, but only used in the dictionary; not in normal speech patterns on a daily basis. This is what we are trying to tell you.

And using speech like that if you have a telephone interview in the US will be grounds not to hire you as there are many patients from all over the world and the manager who you interview with will expect that others will have problems understanding you. Common and easy to understand English wins hands down, not trying to think of what you mean.
