What is a British RGN equivalent to in Australia

I am interested in working in Adelaide Australia. I registered as a nurse in 1991, but do not have a nursing degree. Does this mean I would be an enrolled nurse in Australia, and if so, will they issue working visa's to enrolled nurses? Also, I was told by and agency they would charge around £5000 for processing of permanent residency, but I wondered if there was a cheeper way to start up living and working as a nurse in Australia. Can you begin living and working on a skilled visa, and then consider applying for a permanent status once you are truely settled out there. Thanks in anticipation, from jeanette.

I hope I am allowed to add to my message above, to win a response from people. I spent around a year doing CGFNS and exams, in preparation for a move to Florida. Myself and my husband have been several times and we love it. However, having passed CGFNS, we were told the system has changed and it was of little use. I am due to sit the nclex in a couple of months, but have heard such a lot about retrogression that it seems impossible to guarentee ever getting in. At the same time, Australia is also a very sunny, the people are really friendly, and the health and education systems much fairer and kinder to all members of society. So, we are now thinking, and please take no offence as we love you, but 'sod America', lets step into the unkown, but highly regarded Australia. Only problem is - I have no nursing degree (have a BA and MA in philosophy of ethics - yes, I know, not very useful), and am extremely keen not to have to study for a nursing degree in England before I can start life in the sun. I have gone through all the related questions and the nearest answer I could find, was, ' if you have graduated as a registered nurse in your country, you can register in Australia. I am a registered nurse, but without a degree. Its a three year course, and I'm on part one of the English register - what would I be in Adelaide? I understand you are not allowed to comment upon visa's, and it seems I need to be a RN over there rather than an EN. I just don't want to spend money on legal asessments, in order to find I need a degree before I can start the process. Take pity on me oh knowledgeable ones!

If you are on part 1 of the register in the UK then you should be a RN in Australia. I too haven't a degree but on part 1 or the register and as far as I am aware that is all you need

Good luck

Forgot to add, at the end of the day it is up to the state to decide on whether you meet requirements but with the large amount of nurses I have seen posting on another site I go on and they are going to Australia you shouldn't have any problems
