Specializes in pediatrics.

Hello all! I am an RN in Southern California, USA. I have been a nurse for a year and working in pediatric acute care the entire time. I have been hoping to move out of the county for a few years now and at this time am hoping to live and work in NZ. I have a few questions about moving and working in NZ and was hoping for more information from anyone who might know. My questions more specifically are

-Is it best to work with a recruitment company to get a job?

-What are some of the recruitment companies that I could go through?

-Is it possible to start working with one of these companies with just one year of formal nursing experience?

-Is it possible to find work without working with a recruitment company?

-When can I do to prepare for work in NZ and how is it different than nursing in the US?

Any information or assistance you could offer would be greatly greatly appreciated! Thank you, fellow nurses!

Questions regarding registration if from outside Australia/New Zealand we request are asked in the International forum and leave the sub forum to local issues and questions regarding places to live.

I personally thing you would do better to not use an agency. Many people do the job successfully on their own with little problem

Nothing much different in terms of theory. There'd be more in the documentation, abbreviations, terminologies (some are slangs, I'm sorry, eg, "Is she PUPping?" hahaha!!! You can hear that from my hospital), and protocols of course. I think it's best not to apply thru recruitment company but apply directly to the hospital online. Once you're here already and have a job, you can apply for bureau agency for part time without a contract and that usually pays higher than your normal job. Do not go to the recruitment company and sign a contract. Google for different hospitals or search this website, www.seek.co.nz. I'm not sure if you need to do some bridging course as well. Ask the NZ nursing council (google the website) about this. Better if you phone them so that you can ask everything. I'm not sure if you also need to have IELTS as the council has new policy now to all foreign nurses except Australian nurses.

Let me know what happens. Goodluck!:smokin:
