US SS # and licensure by endorsement

Hi!

I am a registered nurse from philippines and have passed the California NCLEX-RN. However, my license will not been issued until I secured a valid US SS no. I haven't get one and my exam will expire soon.

I am planning to apply for licensure by endorsement in other states which doesn't require SSS number.

In this case, will California still issue me a permanent RN license after the expiry date which is 3 years after the date printed in the passing letter I received from California state board of RN since I already acquired a permanent license in other state by endorsement.

Your best bet is to contact the California BON.

Search the forum, but I think I have read before that you cannot use "endorsement" to another state, since you don't have a physical license to endorse to the other state. You can apply for "licensure by examination" in a state which doesn't require SSN and then just get the passing NCLEX score sent to the new board.

Your exam will not expore, the application to CA will.

You are unable to endorse, as you do not have a license number to endorse. If you want to go the route of another state, you will need to start the process from the beginning, and apply for License by Examination, and CA can submit verification of you passing the NCLEX exam to them.

That is the only thing that you can do. And one of the reasons why I never recommend CA for initial licensure to any foreign grad.

If the application expire and I reapply for licensure in CA, do I need to retake the exam again or just the application?

What states can you recommend me to reapply inorder to get my license while waiting for an SS#?

In case I already have my license in another state which doesn't require the SS #, can they endorse me back to CA or other states?

will CA issue me license by endorsement upon submission of SS#?

you only take the exam once... if you passed it .. that is already OK...

I heard that you just need to pay again and they will retain your records in their database.

Try New York, and yes your NY license can be endorsed to CA.

I am sorry to hear about your situation. It is a waste of time if you will not be able to get your CA license because of the SSN requirement.

I agree on this, if a foreign nurse wants to have a US license she/he better apply to NY and then have it endorse it later if the nurse decides on what state she/he would work.

The only thing if one wants to go thorugh CA if the nurse is sure that she/he will be working there.

shoots.. i'm in the same situation. if i apply through examination, do i have to take the exam again? or do i just go through the process of submitting the application forms and other school documents to the other state and CA BON will send them the exam results and i get licensed to the other state?.... if i get licensed to the other state, do i also get a CA license? if not, can I still apply for a CA license through endorsement after a couple of years? sorry for all the questions...

Most states ask how many hours of current nursing practice you have practiced as well as your ssn. Also how many CEUS you havecompleted. The reason is the ssn is to verify you are current with all your legal obligations.

I would wait until you have a visa and a job offer and work as an nurse in whatever country you live in.
