US- RN planning to transfer to Canada

Hi. I am a US-RN and is thinking of trying to migrate to Canada. Can somebody give me advice if its true when they say that if you pass you're an NCLEX passer, you can just apply for a reciprocity in Vancouver? Is this true? Please help me.

After reading all the information, it still boils down to calling the board in Canada. I found that with good intention we all have good information to share, but rules change and situations do to....ALWAYS go to the source and save yourself some grief....Our California board has different rules for different degrees and Canada does too.........so cut out the wondering. They will explore with you just what credentials you have and how to proceed...and of course the COST! and all the other LITTLE things like background checks,health checks,residency proof....(and on and on and on)

Hello everyone! I think this might help. Last 14th of August 2014, I emailed and asked College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC) regarding reciprocity about NCLEX Canada and NCLEX US.

This was the response I received last 16th of August 2014.

Hello,

Thank you for your email. As of January 15, 2015 CRNBC will be recognizing the NCLEX-RN dating back to 1982. You are correct; you will need to go through the regular IEN application process including English, SEC, etc. Once you go through the process and become eligible for registration in B.C., you can request that an official verification of your NCLEX date and result be sent to us directly from the State Board you wrote the exam through, and you will not be required to re-write the exam.

Furthermore, I've also emailed and asked the same question to College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA).

This was the reply I received last Aug. 15, 2014

Hello Aldrean,

The policy relating to the NCLEX is still at the decision making process at CARNA. The Provincial Council is meeting in September to make this decision. More information will be on the website once this decision has been made.

On the other hand, I had read this from CNO Website.

Information for applicants who have already passed the NCLEX-RN exam: On Sept. 18, the College of Nurses of Ontario's Council will consider whether to accept successful NCLEX-RN exam writes going back to 1982. Council's decision will be posted following the meeting.

so that means if I already have RN license in US, then I don't need to write it again after I passed all assessment in Canada?

Depends on the province. Alberta& Ontario haven't decided. BC says yes if otherwise meet their credential & education requirements you won't have to retake NCLEX. Canada is BSN only for RN.

This is correct for BC. I recently received an email stating as an NCLEX passer all I need to do is to write the Board I took the NCLEX RN and endorse it to them.

Are any American graduate and trained RN being required to undergo the SEC?

HAI ,when they change the rule for NCLEX RN which can be endorsed to Canada board of nursing from US board, will there be any chance to reduce the score level of IELTS to US standard of S-7 and overall 6.5?any insights?

No they will not reduce the English language proficiency requirements. They will remain overall 7 with minimum 7 in each subtest. If you wish to migrate to Canada you need to remediate until you meet the minimum language. Very simple.

The fact that there will be a Canadian version of the NCLEX is not indicative that the Canadians are willing to risk patient safety by reducing their longstanding minimum English language proficiency requirement. Since there are two national languages in Canada you have the option of demonstrating listening/speaking/reading/speaking in French.

(In other words the answer hasn't changed since you asked on Monday)

You are not endorsing. At the moment only 2 provinces have said they will accept previously passed NCLEX however as mentioned in other posts ALL provincial requirements still need to be met
