Loriangel14, May I ask you a question? (my apologies for jumping in; this is another topic)

I wonder if you could give your personal view of nursing (the big picture) these days for someone (me) who is a male LPN in NJ/USA, and dreams to move to Canada soon. I am just waiting to get my full 1st year experience (half way thru now). I have friends and family there, and love many things Canadian. Oh, by the way, althought I am in excellent shape -health wise- (I'm all the time told I look like mid forties) my age is 52, which besides my gender could be a hinder in some areas; please remember that.

Thank you for reading this. Please feel free to disregard replying if you are short of time, I'd understand. Best regards, Arleq, LPN

Moved to a thread on it's own for better response.

Where in Canada are you looking at?

How long was your PN programme? Our programmes up here are in general 2+years and include psych and maternity.

Which province are you looking at? You would need to have your education assessed to see if it is the equivalent of an Canadians.

Which visa to you plan to use to migrate?

LPN would not qualify you for a visa. That would be a major hurdle.

I'm Canadian, I had lived and worked in Florida for a very long time. I did my LPN program in Florida as well as completed an associates degree which included all the pre-reqs for the LPN-RN bridge program. Plus I completed the first semester of the LPN-RN bridge in Florida.

All of my combined education plus being licensed and working in Florida met the CLPNA's requirements for LPN licensing here in Alberta.

So basically you'd have to have an ADN RN from a US state to be considered for LPN here.

And then there's the whole issue of immigration ....very difficult. The job market is miserable here too.

For some reason LPN and RN was put back on the skilled list earlier this year. Sure the government knows something we dont

Oh did they? Hmm. I thought it was just RNs put back on the list. PNs didn'used to qualify for TN visa.

Talking about the Federal Skilled workers list. TN still requires RN but OP hasn't really mentioned which visa they are applying for

Didn't FSW require a BSN as well?

I looked at the processing time for skilled worker. It's something like 3 yrs. Maybe by that time we'll need more nurses from outside of Canada
