I graduated with a BSN from Knoxville TN in may 09. I passed the NCLEX in June 09. I moved to Alberta in July 09. My paperwork is still in process at CARNA (the board for alberta). Has anyone ever dealt with them before? The process is taking FOREVER and they won t give me any estimate as to how long it will take before my paperwork clears so I can work! Any help out there???

CARNA is the College responsible for RNs, we don't have "boards" up here.

It takes as long as it takes. I moved provinces a few years back and it took nearly six months just to do an interprovincial paper trail check.

You have been following the Alberta Health Services thread?

No I have not been following. How do I do so?

So I should count on around 6 months then? Its already been a while.

There is a hiring freeze for all health care professionals.

Look for the thread "Alberta Health Services" and start reading

Scroll up to the top of this page. Right above the "Regions" tab there's a box that says "Google Custom Search". Type in CARNA and you'll have a ton of stuff to read through. But I'll make it easy on you (this time ;)). Start here: Alberta Health Services then go here: ***Internationally Educated Nurses: VERY IMPORTANT - READ THIS FIRST*** and then here: For those considering Canada and here SEC assessment ? for a lot of useful information.

It will probably take about 6 months with CARNA, but getting a job will probably take more like 6 years. You need to read the paper, my friend.

I already have two job offers lined up. I am simply waiting on CARNA to release me to start those jobs.

Really? Good for you... obviously Dr Duckett has no control over YOUR potential workplace.

Thanks! Just hope things work out in the near future here. 4 months waiting already without work is hard.

Specializes in med/surg.

It takes CARNA around 6 months to do their thing so you still have 2 to go! :-)
