US BSN graduate want to move to Australia

Hello,

My name is raj and i have graduated from a Accelerated BSN program from NY. I dont have a RN license yet.

I have some questions if someone can please help me with it. I would really appreciate it.

1) I want to move to AUSTRALIA and wanted to know Do i need a NYS RN license first to even start applying for registration in any state of australia ?

2) Is it necessary to have work experience to get a job as registered nurse in australia ? I dont have any experience and i am just a new grad.

3) I am in USA on Student visa. How do i get a visa for australia or what kind of visa can i get if i want to work and become a RN in australia ?

4) Do i have to study again to become a RN in australia?

I would really appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance

Waiting for some correct guidance.

Raj

Hello Raj

I hope this helps

1) I want to move to AUSTRALIA and wanted to know Do i need a NYS RN license first to even start applying for registration in any state of australia ? Yes, you do need to have current US licence to start applying for registration in Australia

2) Is it necessary to have work experience to get a job as registered nurse in australia ? I dont have any experience and i am just a new grad. You will need to discuss this with the nursing boards themselves as the criteria may vary

3) I am in USA on Student visa. How do i get a visa for australia or what kind of visa can i get if i want to work and become a RN in australia ? Look at the DIMIA webpage www.immi.gov.au

4) Do i have to study again to become a RN in australia? US qualifications are well recognised in Australia as long as you have a current US licence, you shouldn't have much problems. Can you tell me how many years you studied to complete Accelerated BSN? Thanks

Please be aware that many of the accelerated programs in the US do not meet immigration requirements for other countries. Much has been written on this topic, please just do a search.

Australia normally requires that you have completed at least two years at the minimum in an approved school of nursing. If you have gone thru one that is of 14 months or so in length, it is not going to meet the requirements for most other countries.

Please provide me with info on working in australia as an RN. I was trained in Grenada and holds a Diploma in nursing with one semester to go to complete my associate. I have 8 months working experience.

The link has already been posted to check out visas for Australia. Regarding nurse licensure, you need to pick a state and check the nursing board websites (also posted as a sticky) as requirements vary.
