No one can predict whether you can get work as a LPN but may find it easier with RN. The issue with Canada is that you need a local license and the Philippines do not offer this. Each state or province for the US and Canada will have their own requirements

Actually it was my brother and my father who encourage me to take up LPN here in the phils and they will help me with my studies, but what i read from here about LPN's gave me a second thought, like there is no shortage of lpn's or even nurses in the US, etc... Second semester is fast approaching and Im still undecided yet... I really need a lot of advises from here that will help me land into a nice decision. Thanks...

There are so many other professions, do you really want to become a nurse to start with?

If yes, why are you looking at the lpn in the philippines, when this type of nurses doesn't seem to be accepted there at all (not possible to registrate/practice)?

If not why wasting money, if you are family sponsored why not looking into other jobs? Plus there are plenty of other professions that would make you eligible for immigration.

I would check with the Board of Nursing to see if they would let you sit for the NCLEX PN. If you check the stats from the NCLEX you will see only a few hundred a year are allowed to sit for the board. My guess the majority of these test takers are BSN students who failed the RN NCLEX.

LPNS are usually limited to working in nursing homes and in my area even nursing home jobs are hard to come by.

Each state is different. Find out where you want to work, and make sure that they will accept LPN there. Not all states will recognize LPN courses.

If you're going to St. Augustine in the Philippines, why not do their RN program. If it's the same St. Augustine that I've heard of, I've heard many good things about that school. Also know that there's not a nursing shortage here in the US like one might think. Maybe in the backwoods of Kentucky where nobody wants to live (sorry kentucky residents, just an example) you might be able to find work but no guarantee. Most people want to live on each end of the coast and that's where you'll have a hard time finding work due to the fact that there are many unemployed RN's who were educated here. Good Luck in your studies.

How long ago did you father petition you ? Usually a family petition takes a very long time and you should not pass up on that opportunity.

If you are planning to work in the Philippines you need a BSN. If you come over after you complete the PN program you could try to take the NCLEX and then get into LVN- RN program. It would be hard to transfer PN credits to the US without completing the program. LPN programs are only a year in the USA. Best of Luck.
