For those who have taken the SEC under CRNBC

Hi guys! For those who have taken the SEC under CRNBC, if you do not mind, will you please share your experiences.

I would particurlarly like to know what happened after you took the SEC. Did they allow you to sit the CRNE or did they require you to study again?

Your replies will be greatly appreciated..thank you so much!

Possibly the reason you've had no responses is that BC only started requiring the SEC as of December 8, 2008 and so far no one has been through the whole process yet. But you're also possibly correct about people abandoning their application to BC because they don't think they can pass SEC. At the risk of being thought rude and having my post reported, I'll say that SEC has become necessary because too many substandard IENs have managed to obtain Canadian registration and jobs and have been discovered. Add to that the dramatic increase in applications to Canadian provinces since the door to the US slammed shut and you have a situation ripe for exploitation. Just because we have a nursing shortage doesn't mean that we should grab onto anyone claiming to be a health care professional without making sure they are what they say they are.

I agree with you janfrn. As much as I like my country, I really cannot deny the fact that they are RNs out there that are, well,...let's just say, do not fit the standards of a Canadian Nurse.

I was just hoping that there is a member (just one member) out there that has been through the whole process because this whole thing is such a new thing.

Well, since the SEC seems almost the same with the other provinces, since BC is basing it on Mount Royal, I really hope that someone can lend a helping hand to us...

I would really appreciate it.

Thanks.

Maybe you should post a new thread with a wider scope. There are people who have completed SEC in Alberta, but they'd probably not look at a thread about BC.

Hi Ikang_714,

May I ask please, when did you submit your requirements for CRNBC?
And what did they tell you about the SEC, did they tell you the reasons?

Thank you. As you know, Im planning álso to have my credentials be assessed in CRNBC, but I'm trying to figure it out as of the moment because of this new policy in CRNBC(SEC).

But I've read from other posts that those who havent yet their experience(hospital) but graduated within the 5 year, were given the eligibility.

Thank's!

As mentioned in another thread, it all goes on what your transcripts have to say. You just can not predict who will and will not be asked. All you can do is submit your application and wait for a decision from the college

I submitted my requirements January of 2009. They didn't say why I needed a Assessment. But I was just informed that I only needed to complete the General Nursing (Med/Surg) part, instead of the complete assessment. (Which I guess is good news)

And yes, you could be elligible to sit the CRNE, but as Silverdragon said, it will all boil down to all of your requirements.

Thank you Silverdragon.

Ikang_ 714 thank you also. I just have one more clarification about the Assessment that you had received from them, does it tell you when do you have to accomplish the Assessment thing, i mean is there a date or shall I say a time frame/deadline for you to accomplish it and only by that time stated you can comply with that, and no more extension?

I am asking this one because I know it would take a considerable amount of money preparing to take the SEC (airfares, accomodations, visa requirements etc.) So that I could have at least anticipate things.

Thanks in advance . God bless.

I was given a year to complete the SEC. I know its a bit expensive to take the SEC, that's why we have to pass it if ever we decide to take the exam.

Well, with regards to all the expenses, here are some tips...
*airfare- try the promos in PAL, the tickets are aroung 488plus taxes. so it's aroung 800dollars or less. There are actually alot of promos out there. (that is if your from the philippines)

*accomodations- try homestay. that's what I'm going to do. I found a family that charges only 25CAD a day, including food, laundry, internet, and local phone calls. And they are 7 minutes away from Kwantlen. So that will surely save a lot of money.

*visa requirements- here in manila, it costs 3000pesos (single entry), plus 350(delivery charges)

hope this helps...
