To those nurses planning to work in US without agency

Hi there!

Is there anyone in this forum like me who is planning to work in US without any employment agency?

I don't have any employment agency taking care of my application in US right now. I am just lucky to have a distant relative who referred me to work in NJ as a direct hire.

It has been very difficult for me because I have to shell out a good sum of money from my own savings. I paid the attorney general for the visa processing and all the necessary exams and requirements needed.

Sometimes, I just feel that I am left alone in the dark specially the previous months because of the retrogression issue. I just hope my application is still on the process.

Its a good thing that through this forum, I can say all that I want and express how I feel as a struggling nurse here in the Philippines . All I want is a good future for my husband and 1 year old baby boy.

Hi

There are a few doing direct hire and just not in the Phillipine forum. I am doing direct hire and although there is some paying out, the hospital petitioning me is also helping me towards any fees I have paid out and will get the money once I start working for them. The best thing going direct is you have control over where you end up and not where the agency wants you

I'm trying not to sign up with any local agencies for my Us applications but it is just so tiring to settle them out. My friends whom I thought could help me out aren't open into helping me out now. Which makes me feel more down.

It is nice to know that I'm not alone with this kind of feeling. I vow that when i reach the US and is stable there, I'd help my fellow nurses here to reach their dreams of looking for greener pastures.

Good luck to us!

Hi... I also want to work in US without the help of an agency. I want it direct hire from them. Can you please tell me where I should start or where to look for a hospital who offers direct hiring?

I have tried applying directly to US hospitals but they referred me to their nurse recruiters. The nurse recruiters informed me that for foreign nurses who are not presently in the US, they can be taken in through agencies which do the recruitment in their behalf.

Hi nursemavi, lenjoy03, myonee, silverdragon, aeonflux14...

I am also thinking of going thru the direct hire process. I've heard horror stories about different agencies, and frankly, im scared about falling into their trap, partly because of the contracts they offer, the rate, the prolonged or undelivered promises, and the exorbitant amount they charge.

Going through the process on your own will cost a lot, but I agree that you will have some level of control over where you will end up in.

However, starting on this path makes me jittery and very insecure. Do you have any advice about agencies which do the recruitment in the behalf of U.S. employers? What services or package do they offer?

Hospitals that do direct hiring usually do not go thru agencies. That is the point of the direct hire. And there are those facilities that will reimburse you for your exams, if you get hired by them when you start to work, and there are those that will pay the immigration costs.

You are going to need to do the research on your own, and you always start with the facility, not an agency; unless they recommend that they only go thru a specific agency. But not the other way around.

would it be okay to look for an employer once i have passed my NCLEX or do i have to receive my VSC first? is it one of the requirements when looking for an employer?

I would suggest trying more hospitals and recruiters. I am using a recruiter and going direct to a hospital with no problems and no mention of using an agency. Infact the recruiter helped me find another hospital after 1st hospital backed out once I received approval. Although this caused me delays atleast I didn't have to worry about finding another hospital myself, she did all the work
