SSN in Florida

Does anyone know how long it takes to get a SSN card in Florida after you apply?

All of the nurses I have talked to here got theirs the same day at the Social Security office, but they've all been here over 5yrs, so I'm wondering if that has changed.

Thanks!

Social Security Numbers are issued on the national level and have nothing to do at all with the state that you are in.

You go to their office and apply in person for it, then it takes about ten days for you to receive the card in the mail. It is no longer issued that day to you.

Thank you Suzanne! Do you know if you can get the actual number the same day, then the card in the mail?

Usually not as they need to process your application and it is not done at that office in most cases. They forward them on, and they also need to verify the information that you have given to them.

For work purposes, you need to actually present the SSN# to them, not just give them a number.
