I really didn't have any particular questions. Just hadn't seen any posts from any down there! I lived in Brasil for a couple of years. Visited Argentina and Paraguay and have always kicked myself for not getting to Uraguay.

I used to participate some time ago, but I don't have much time these days. Actually I've opened the thread "Need some help on CGFNS" when I failed in July 2003. got many answers and help on what to do about the examination.

I think that there are no others participating 'cause first we aren't many, and second nursing is pretty much different here than it is in other countries.

See,in our education we have 6 months of Health Administration. Because we are supposed to administer the unit in which we work. That is assessing patients, establishing nursing care and determining nursing care to be delivered by non licenced nursing assistants. That is our nursing team. Ussually there is 1 RN and several nursing assistants to care for about 25 to 30 pts. in the unit per shift. We are responsible for almost everything, from nursing care to coordinating exams. That's from the very first day in job. In special units there ussually are more ythan 1 RN and several nursing assistants. Maybe that's the reason

There are South American Nurses here really... i am one of them, i am from Lima Peru. Being a nurse in my country like others South American countries is very different than in U.S.A. i think. Here the nurse is responsible of the mayority of activities related to the health patient, in public hospitals a nurse can have 40- 45 patients in a unit and she have to assistents to work with, the nurse have to supervise the cleaning, the medication, the feeding, have to take the blood, urine samples,etc, have to take the better and quick actions when she thinks it is necessary, doctors come and check patients just for 10 minuets (average) and the rest of the day they have to come when we need it is necessary , nurses are responsible of the physical, pshycological and spiritual health of the patients, her/his families and also the community we live in.

Nurses in my country like others work many hours for earning few money, the minimum of hours that a nurse has to work here is 150 per month, but doing that you only can earn 1500 soles = $450 (american dollars/per month), it is difficult to live with this amount of money, because of that many of us have to work in two places and work 300 hours/per month aprox.

As a result, many of us are interested in working abroad, that is sad because we love our country and our people, but if you think in having a better quality of life and you know there are places where our human rigths can be respected that is why we choose a different option...working abroad.

Hi Peruviannurse: I agree with you. Nursing in SA is really hard. I'm tired of being responsible of so many aspects of patient's care. The rest of uruguayan helathcare pro, are always resting on our backs. Only for the job, not for the money, you know. In Uruguay a nurse works ussually 6 hs per day, and has 1 day off every 4 or 5 days. That is 6 days off a month. Wages are the same on weekends.30% more from 10:00 PM to 6 AM. Double on special hollydays (4 in the year) We make almost $400 a month. Most of us have 2 jobs. That is working 12 hs per day all the year. It's very difficult ot live on that amout of money. For these reasons I'm working on migration too.

I visited Peru several years ago. Visited Cusco, Puno, Arequipa, Ica,and Lima. I traveled by bus from Montevideo to La Quiaca in Bolivia. There I took the train. It was a great trip. Wish I could take it again some day.It's a beautiful country. There's our history, really. I have a friend in Lima, there's been some years I don't know about her. :balloons:

Hi Ned: What a pitty you didn't visdited Uruguay. It's a little but a very beautiful country. have almost 500km of wonderful beaches. Most of them are wild. We have a little population so you can be alone at the beach. We also have grat rivers and lakes. It's orography is ondulated, doesn't have mountains. You can also vist our thermal waters. If you've been to Buenos Aires, Argentina, you must've heard of Punta de Este, because many Argentinians go there for their vacations. But this isn't the only city for vacations. It's the bigger, not the best, although it's beautiful. Our country is also safe and calm, no a lot of crime.

Hope you can visit us some day.
