RN from Philippines waiting for eligibility letter from CABON

by mjoydb

Hello there! I'm a newbie to this forum.

Anyway, need your help. I'm a registered nurse from the philippines, came here to US via my spouse's petition. I sent my application to CABON last June and called them earlier today to check on my status. The CABON rep that i spoke with said that it will take 4 months for my application to be processed. Does it really take this long? I tried asking them whether they received my documents from the philippines (transcripts), but they said that, any document missing will just be noted on the letter which they'll send me by mid-october. So, i have to wait for that again.

So i guess right now, i'll just stay home and study and wait for that letter. I'm thinking of enrolling in a review class but kaplan review is expensive ($698). i wonder if you can recommend a good book instead, i have the saunders comprehensive review already (second ed.though) and also the kaplan 2005-2006 NCLEX- RN exam. do you also recommend on-line review courses? Are they worth it? Is there a website where it delineates the role of RN and LVN and CNA's, we do not have LVN's and CNA's in the phillippines so i really need insight into "delegation" of procedures, etc.

I took CG exams before leaving for US so some of my review materials from the philippines are still with me.. But i'm sure CG is different from NCLEX.

One more thing, since CA BON does not require CG certificate as a prerequisite for NCLEX, i did not pursue taking my english exams yet.But I know i will need the english proficiency exam results once i apply for a job. I'm looking into taking IELTS, can you recommend any good review class as well.

Thank you so much.

California is on average four months for approval to take NCLEX for any foreign graduate. Can be even longer..............
For the IELTS, I recommend that you use www.scottsenglish.com. They are actually based out of Australia but have the best on-line program around.

Saunders 2nd edition is what my students used and they all passed the first time. Which part of CA are you in?

I would focus on the questions in Saunders, but also review each answer, the book does an excelent job of explaining the rationale behind the correct answer and why the others weren't chosen. This is as important as doing the questions.

If you send me your e-mail address by pm, do not post it here, I will send you some articles that will also be very beneficial to you.
