Exactly. You will not be able to as if there is nothing to adjust to and your current visa whatever it is (B-2?) runs out. You will need to leave. Something to think about if you are coming from the affected areas.

I don't think you will be affected, the countries to be affected by the retrogression are Philippines, India and China. These are the counrties where the demand for visas is great that the quota allocated for them yearly is not enough.

As far as I understand, there will be more countries involved this time, not only PIC & Mexico.

Couldn't hurt to make Consular processing more efficient or at least up to par w/ AOS while they're at it.

They cannot do anything right after the elections. The entire House of Representatives is up for election plus a sizeable chunk of Congress. Until they are sworn in the during the month of Janaury, you will see what we call a "lame duck" government. Menaing that not much will get done, unless it is a real emergency, and visas for nurses are not high on the list.

All petitions will initially be put on hold as far as accepting them as soon as the visas are no longer current. Then they will slowly open up to those that are not affected by the retrogression. Talk has been that there will be seven countries included this time, a few more besides Mexico and the others that were hit last time/

If you are from Europe and were born there, then you should not be afffected in the long run, but you will be initially. Remember that you need to be in the US for a specified time before a petition can be sumbtted in your behalf, and that is when things open up again.

my suggestions, while waiting for new batch of visas, try to get a visa screen as soon as possible by completing/passing all requirements such as CGFNS or NCLEX exam and English test.

The visa screen is our passport to get a sponsor and a greencard. Once visa becomes available, then you are there, among the first in the line.
