Recession and immigration

I understand that many of you are waiting for visas to be able to work in CA, but you need to be very aware of what is happening now. CA has one of the highest rates of unemployment in the country.

Yahoo announced yesterday lay-offs of close to 1500 people.

Mervyn's, a large dept store operating out of CA, has announced that it is closing and going out of business. They have been a constant here for many for close to 60 years.

I believe that I also read that Levitz is closing up as well due to what is happening now in the US, and they have been national and around since I can remember. They are a large furniture store with stores across the US.

Shoe Pavilion is going out of business.

Circuit City is speaking of closing more than 150 stores.

Things are bad here and they are going to be getting much worse. Things are going to be very tight here for quite sometime. Even if you are one of the lucky ones to get thru, unless you have an excellent and significant credit history from home, you are not going to be able to purchase a car either. It is really going from bad to worse here right now for many.

Just things that you really need to be aware of.

And it is effecting healthcare

I agree with Suzanne, times are tough and getting worse. If your goal is coming to the USA be prepare to wait a very long time.

Many of my coworkers that thought about retirement in the next 10 years are all planning on working due to our 401K plans tanking. So this "shortage" may never happen.

My health system laid off 500 people yesterday: http://kdka.com/local/UPMC.layoffs.jobs.2.847175.html

Thanks for posting and sharing what is happening where you are living and working.

This is not something that I am just making up. And if an area is having lay-offs, then they cannot even consider bringing a foreign nurse over to the US, even if they have been waiting three years to come here. This is the point that I have repeatedly been trying to make. Things are bad all over and not just in the US; and it is going to be hard for any country to prove that they cannot find someone from their own country first for the job.
