Hello I am new to this group. I have some question regarding probationary period. My understanding about the probationary period in nursing is that the nurse is still under guidance with the facility in performing in functions and ideally should be on shift with another RN who will be his preceptor. Can he work on the floor as the only RN on duty for the whole shift and in the whole facility even if the period of probation has not ended as per the mandate of the facility? what would be the legal issues that might happen if this followed and something went wrong? If somethings goes wrong, who is liable? only the probationary nurse? or the other members of the team that when on duty with him? what is the liability of the facility when it comes to this? With him is an LPN or sometimes a unregistered nurse or healthcare aide. Is that allowed? need info. Hope to hear from you!
