I have a friend in the CRNA program there currently. He enjoys it....says it is hard....but he is doing well! Employers look at the bachelors and CRNA certs just as any other school in the US. Once you pass NCLEX for you RN...that's all the employers want. And the CRNA is a certified program just as any other of it's counterparts in the US. Being Bilingual does help, also wonderful if you would like to learn spanish.

When is spoke to the admissions lady over there she said you must speak spanish to be admitted, your clinicals are in spanish only according to her.

I have a BA in Health Care Management with a 3.2 GPA, what are my chances in getting into the Nursing program in Arecbio? Anyone have a name or contact number for the admissions staff in UPR Arecibo? Are the requirements the same for all UPR branch schools?

I'm a student at Interamerican University at the Metro Campus......in the acelerated program. I already have a BA from many years ago... I live here in PR, so it was a great choice for me. And I understand from some of the other student who have come from the States that it was easier to get into than some State Side options. The program is basically good, but the school is lacking in resources. It is my understanding that employers in the States look at the degree very favorably...... and in the end, a BS/RN is a BS/RN. But don't imagine that you will be attending Georgetown University...... You WILL get hands on clinical experience, and there are lots of things here that you would not see at school in the States... Hope this helps

Are you sure you want to go into nursing in Puerto Rico??? The whole hospital\healthcare system seems to be a mess. I lived in Puerto Rico for 8 years and I have never seen terrible health care. I don't know what current salaries are like there now but if I remember it was almost half of the payscale here in the states. (Which might explain the substandard quality of care) I love Puerto Rico very much and would love to go back but the Healthcare system is scary..

This is exactly what I'm looking to do. I was born there; Speak a little Spanish but might be wanting to move back with my Fiance (who is fluent en español) after we get married next year. Can you send me a private message regarding how this program works? I've called U of Turabo and spoke with someone there but can't get through to anyone at UPR in SJ. I'm trying to find costs, pre-reqs, schedule etc.?

i applied and spoke to someone there a couple years ago. here is the deal:

17000 for the full program which is broken into 9 trimesters or 3 years. but they do take transfer credits so it could be less

There are no prereqs and admission is essentially gaurenteed if you have a 2.0 + GPA and you get a BSN after its all done. this info only applies to the english program (they also have a spanish)

Please note this is not the CRNA program, this is the BSN program which I think is what you are asking about. Also note that RNs get paid about 15 per hour in San Jaun if you can get a job, this is last i heard. Also, I have heard bad things regarding the organization of the program which can be a very seroious issue in some nursng schools, be careful if to many students tell you its disorganized I wouldnt go. my personal experience.

DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE CRNA PROGRAM???? ANYONE, HOW HARD IS IT TO GET IN, WHAT IS IT LIKE??
