Practical Nursing in Canada for 2 years

Hi, I am a registered nurse in the Philippines with no work experience. I enrolled at a 2-year practical nursing program at Centennial College in Toronto Canada. I already have a student visa and will be leaving this November but my classes will start on January.

My question is, will CNO allow me to take the Practical nurse licensure exam on a post-graduation work permit? I read on the Canadian Immigration website that students who graduate from a course 8 months and longer are eligible for a post-graduation work permit which will be valid for as long as the course they graduated from. I was wondering if CNO would allow me to take the licensure exam with that permit.

Thank you so much. I'm new here and registered just so I could ask this question. :)

Hi.. no, I wasn't questioned at all about that. I don't think it's an issue. :)

hi kamae, ive been following your post we have the same way of getting to Canada by my own reasons too, i am also a bsn from ph, but right now im working as a nursing assistant here in japan its my 4th year here, im planning to take student visa through practical nursing course, could you help me what are the applications did you go through, did u had an agency? im planning to do cross country from japan to canada.

hello kamae, i would like to chat with you, i have a lots of questions to ask, but i cant send you direct private message, could you send me your fb and lets chat there maybe?

hi kamae. i am also in the process of applying to centennial college using the rpn route. i know it has been two years since you applied for the study permit so i am not sure if the immigration still has the same policies regarding the approval of study permit. i want to know if you still submitted a study plan for the immigration. i am a bit worried about being an rn here in the Philippines and studying in Canada using the rpn route.

hi kamae. can u pm me your email? im not allowed to reply yet to your pm

thank you.

Hi Kamae. We used to exchange messages last Dec because im also planning to apply for a student visa. I created a new account here that's why for now I cannot send private messages. I have a question regarding study plan. Im an RN here in the Philippines. What is the best advice you can give me when creating a study plan for practical nursing wherein you are already an RN here in PH. Thanks. Hoping for your response.

Hi val0922.. What do you mean by study plan? If you're an RN in the Philippines, you can go for the 1 yr RPN bridging course or take a different course that is offered to international students. As an RN in PH, you may qualify to take the RPN exam without having to take the program. I took the 2-yr RPN course for different reasons and you don't have to follow that path if what you're after is a work permit. I took the RPN exam even before I finished the course because I had a BSN and an Philippine RN license. I decided to finish the course regardless.

Good luck and pm me if you want once you're able to.

Okay. Im still thinking on what course I should take and ways I could puruse to make my stay in canada longer if I will be on a student visa. What advise can you give me because Im about to start my student visa application. Thank you

Look for courses that could lead to a career that is included in the NOC 0,A or B occupations so that you could use it to apply for immigration in the future. That way, you'll have another option other than RPN in order to qualify for immigration. You could search for those occupations online.. type in NOC 0, A and B occupations.

Hi,Kamae I would like to ask where I can pay my registration application for college of nurses of ontario.I am currently here in saudi arabia , just got my immigrant visa and i applied for cno registration, i tried to search the cno website but no details regarding payment via credit card and account number is not writtien. Thanks a lot in advance

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

You may be better contacting the CNO and asking them this question, I have just had a look and it appears as if they are asking for cheque at this time as mentions postmark

Thanks a lot.
