Petrol Crisis in Scotland

by danissa

Hi any of my Scottish pals...are you being affected by the petrol strike yet???
Background,.......The BP, Scotlands petrol..(gas) supplier has had crisis talks, and decided to strike, closing the plant down as from this weekend. It's already being shut down bit by bit...( we see the plant from our front bedroom, and some of the flames are out already!)

Chaos...most of the filling stations have notices up, saying no unleaded, no diesel to be had.
We got a thing through from work, if you work in an emergency service, you will be issued a card, to enable you to get the petrol to get to work! So, I will get that tomorrow when I go in.

The country has gone mad...queues at the pumps..notices saying no fuel.....
Whats it gonna be like by this time next week????????????????

(Mad Max??)

We had this in the 70's in the United States, long lines, people hoarding and topping off their tanks, gas stations running out of supplies.

I imagine we'll be seeing more of this worldwide in the years to come. We need to start reconfiguring our societies in the next 20 years to adjust to new ways of doing things energywise.

jls..it's a scary thing though,...how do you get to do anything, go anywhere, have supplies delivered to the stores, without the fuel to do it??
Profiteering is another issue, the secretary of state issued a message about not panic buying and not paying over the odds for the fuel! (Like THAT will make a difference?)

It's scary to watch the plant being shut down....one of the things you take for granted, jump in the car and go from A to B..........

I hope this is resolved quickly for your sake and everyone in Scotland. And why is it that no one has invented a car run completely by solar?? Darn it.

As with jls I remember this in the US from the 70's. Just a minor suggestion for you - go out today and buy a locking gas cap for your vehicles as people siphoning gas from you can be a problem (particularly in public parking lots and at night). Other than that, I hope it ends quickly for you all!

Be glad that you have public transportation more readily available than the rural US.....

Remember when we had this in the UK a few years ago when it affected all of the UK. I know we was limited where I lived on how much we could get and that was for medical staff and petrol stations where we could only go was manned by police and we had to prove ID

I am refusing to waste my 2.64 gallon of gas on non essential drives now. I walked to the grocery store 2x this week. Nice thing about walking to the grocery is you only buy what you need as you have to carry it home!!

This morning I walked the 5 year old to pre-k, and I will walk back to pick him up after lunch.

I know my mini boycott of driving wont solve anything, but it may leave a few more bucks in my pocket at the end of the week and hopefully tone up my legs and abs in time for the pool!!!

The problem here is that IF people hadn't been SOOOOO STUPID & panic bought there wouldn't be any problem!!!!

They're only on strike for a couple of days!!!!
