OPT as staff nurse with Master's degree

by saraltx

I'm currently enrolled in an RN-to-BSN program and staring to plan the next steps. I have been considering becoming a gerontologic nurse practitioner eventually, and with the retrogression still in place I thought I might as well go ahead and do that. So here is my question: I found out that soon all nurse practitioners will be required to have a doctoral degree, and I think by the time I would graduate from a Masters program, this rule would probably already be in place. I'm not sure if I'll be able to save enough money to do the Masters and Doctocal degree all at once without working. However, with this rule, I suppose I won't be able to work as an NP on OPT after the Masters degree. Would it be possible to get authorized for working as a staff RN on OPT after having graduated from the Masters degree (meaning the same position where I've been working after my ADN and will be working after my BSN), or would it have to be a job where the Masters is required?
If I could split it up, by first doing the Masters program, then a year of OPT, then the doctoral program, I should be able to afford it that way. Thanks for any suggestions and advice!
