That is not entirely the case. The OPT only permits one to work for no more than one year with that EAD. And since we are still under a retrogression, the chances of being able to continue after the one year are slim to none at this time.
If you received a sign-on bonus, I am sure that it was based on working for them for more than one year. If so, and you are not able to do so, you will be responsible for repaying of the bonus that was given to you. And not all employers let you pay back part of it, some will demand all of it.
You need to check to see what the fine print says on your contract.
