OPT RN position in Atlanta or Houston

I think you should search for a job like a regular person. Employers wouldn't ask if you have OPT when you interview. You only need to let their HR and international office know when you fill the forms after you're hired. You need to present the card to them so they know you're allowed to work legally.

That's right. I am working under OPT and simply applied for the job, was interviewed and was hired on the spot. I got my sign on bonus and everything. I just dread the fact that if nothing changes, it will be over in december!!!!

That is not entirely the case. The OPT only permits one to work for no more than one year with that EAD. And since we are still under a retrogression, the chances of being able to continue after the one year are slim to none at this time.

If you received a sign-on bonus, I am sure that it was based on working for them for more than one year. If so, and you are not able to do so, you will be responsible for repaying of the bonus that was given to you. And not all employers let you pay back part of it, some will demand all of it.

You need to check to see what the fine print says on your contract.

The bonus is for signing a contract for one year. The hospital's human resources department is aware of the expiration date on my EAD. It will allow me to work for them for one year, like I signed on my contract. Being under OPT was no problem at all. I applied like anyone else, got hired and received a great orientation.
They are aware of the excat circumstances. They of course have a copy of my EAD.
The hospital has an incentive program for ADN to BSN and are more than willing to include me in it when my OPT is over in December. It may not be exactly true for everyone, for every hospital or for every state, but it is true for me. I will never lie or mislead anyone with my words.

That is good that they are aware of your circumstances, but this is something that should be discussed up front with HR, and not hidden from them until the last moment.

It is always better to be up front with any employer. Glad to hear that things are working out for you, but this is not the usual case. And great for you that the hospital is willing to help with your BSN, knowing that you will only get the OPT again when the BSN is completed. You usually do not hear of facilities willing to do that for anyone.

Especially when we have no idea of when visas will open up again.

Believe me, I know I'm blessed!!! I am making the best out of this opportunity and learning all I can. I want the hospital to value my work and mysef as a worthy individual that can be an asset for them. Visa uncertainty can affect us all in many ways.
I am aware of how lucky I've been so far. We'll see what lies ahead...
