NZ RN looking to work in the US

I am a Registered Nurse from NZ looking to one day work in the US. I know its a large country and legislation most likely differs from state to state but I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight as to what Nursing is like in the states and how my education would match up to a US trained nurse.

I have a bachelor of Nursing and am a Registered Nurse in NZ. I am currently completing some post graduate study so by the time I move over would likely have post grad cert or dip.

Is it best to go through an agency for these things as I can imagine obtaining a work visa would be tricky or impossible alone?

Also NZ has a public healthcare system. What are the differences working in private healthcare? Its a concept I struggle to get my head around. Any help would be great!

Hi have you got any further information since you posted this? Each state has its only license but within pockets of states it easy to transfer licenses and to get a license you have to pass the NCLEX https://www.ncsbn.org/2362.htm is really useful. I don't know what healthcare in NZ is like as I'm UK but compared to the UK the salary for nurses in the US is higher, overtime is extra, but you tend to get less paid holiday. Honestly it would be faster to seek Australian citizenship and then go to the US on an E3 visa than to wait on an EB3 category green card for the US as there is very little need for US hospitals to sponsor green cards for nurses these days.

Unless you have a way to get through US immigration the rest of your queries are academic.
