ive been reading abt nysed & cvs regarding this topic....
& has been itching to ask this;

re NY: correct me if i am wrong; nysed - cvs - nclex ?
i am planning to apply them both (cvs & nysed lic) at the same time, - will it be possible & wise to do so?

offtopic: will it be faster & better to apply for Ca lic(or other states such as vermont) then just apply for reciprocity to NY if i intend to work in NY?

If your intended state is NY then apply direct to them because even if you obtain your license with another state, do not go to CA and there is a sticky already explaining why not, and endorse you still need to follow requirements for foreign nurse so CVS. My initial application was with NY and I had no problems going through the process but NY process at the moment i anything from 6 months upwards before you get permission to sit NCLEX

hi,isneyk
im a RN from hong kong,i also want to work in NYC. Recently, i applied for the CP (certification programme) from CGFNS. unfotunately, they reject it since i havent sufficient hours in infant/maternal nursing in therorectical instruction and clinical practice. i phoned to CGFNS already ask for the number of hours which i need for this specialty. they said its confidential...............lol
and now i dont know what to do bcoz im gonna apply for the CVS from CGFNS but im afraid they'll reject me with the same reason......i ask the staff in CGFNS again whether they'll reject me r not. they said they are not sure...."u have to send it first to seee..." what a good answer.....i dont really know how much i have to spend in the CGFNS again and again........im thinking like im gambling with them....pay them and wait for refusal lol........
on the other hand ,im thinking to make up my hours in the infant/maternal nursing so i can meet their requirement. however, we dont have such a single course provide to me in hong kong since all nursing school has been closed for several years.anyone has idea what should i do here ?
1.send the CVS for NYS to CGFNS and try my luck?
2.find a single course of infant/maternal in overseas or in states?
3.anyone know there's a single course for that part of nursing and approved by CGFNS?
4.does anyone know about the hours of infant/maternal nursing in applyiing for NCLEX in NYS?
5.should i apply to vermont like some nurses do which is more easy and fast?
thx for all ur attention here guys...
best regards

You really need to check their website to say whether it is required but I think it isn't. Yes it does have an expiration date and for purpose of VSC it is 2 years

I don't think so but they will not issue license without completing the courses (sure there are 2 courses you have to complete) think the other course is on infection control http://www.op.nysed.gov/nursing.htm

Just adding to what Anna had posted as well just in case it may be applicable to some people reading this thread.

There has been reliable reports that those part of the June 2006 batch are taking longer than usual to process and no reports yet of any of their applications were processed as well ever since the re-take (if they did) and if that helped in finally completing the process. Other applications from other countries and also who applied much later than them already have their eligibility letters.

*Those with such applications and who had received their eligibility letters, pls. feel free to post it here or make another thread about it. Thanks.
