Nursing Jobs In Canada

I am wondering if anyone knows about the current job situation in Canada at the moment, particularly in Vancouver. I am a nurse from New Zealand and have applied for my nursing registration in British Columbia however I have heard it is very hard to find a job there and they only employ local nurses for permanent job positions. I need to find out some information asap as I will cancel my registration application there if this is the case and look for work elsewhere.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
