Nursing in Alberta

Where does one go to look for RN jobs in Alberta besides AHS. Everyplace i go seems to be national. Can anyone provide any information, it would be appreciated.

AHS is THE employer in AB. It covers all acute, psychiatric, pediatric, public health, etc. jobs.

If you are looking for a private employer you could try the CARNA site.

Is there any other places to go? i mean there are other places to work besides the muni hospitals. ie private, cancer inst. mental health.

All of those are either directly under AHS or are controlled by AHS indirectly. The only nursing jobs separate from AHS would be with agencies like WeCare, the VON and the like, and in physician, dentist or free-standing surgical clinics. The employment situation here sucks big time right now.

Thank you for the information, it's just frusterating to be jumping from place to place to search for jobs. i guess thats my only option at this time.

You do realize there is a hiring freeze in Alberta? Probably lay offs in the next year?

According to AHS there is no nursing shortage. All AHS postings are limited to internal applicants. The few non-union facilities and clinics are seeing an increase in applications for their postings as nurses with less seniority in the system are starting to look for other work while they have the choice?

The Alberta Advantage is slashing healthcare, not an economic ideal.

Hi

I found a web site and it is called "Canadian Jobs" or "Indeed" I think you have to subscribe to each. Alberta may not be the place to come too as the prospects for a job are looking glum. Many of the long time nurses that I work with have been "offered" early retirement..and there is minimal jobs for external applicants..usually only internal applicants. Good luck with your job search, and I hope those web sites help.

You could also try working at one of the Universities. They are always looking for clinical instructors. They are a few here in the city. ....University of Calgary, Mount Royal University , BowValley College....don't know if that is your thing but I did it for a while and it was a good experience. Though I would add that as well.......Oh the only thing is that there are no benefits that is why the pay is higher is because you have to pay for your own benefits. Hope that helps.

Just came across a company on twitter called health hitch that is suppose to launch a website that is an online job board for health professionals in Alberta. I will post a follow up if it does check out. Just thought some people might want to know.

Update. The website HealthHitch.com has launched recently. I checked it out and sent them some feedback on the site. I posted my resume as it is purely a healthcare career site, and since it is Alberta owned i thought why not help out someone local who may be doing me a huge favor in the future. Anyways the site is young and fresh and provides a complete health related job board; even animal health :)
