Nurse Practitioners in another country

by juice73

Hi,
I am a nurse practitioner student who is interested talking to a nurse practitioner from another country. It is for a professional issues class I a currently taking. I would love to talk to someone about the differences of nursing here and a different country of origin.
Please contact me if you are willing to help. Thanks Joyce.

I'm not an NP yet but if you don't get any responses you might want to check with the US Embassies. Some of them have NPs and one of their docs told me they are always looking for NPs - good to keep in mind if you want to work in another country. Bangladesh has no NPs; nursing here is not well respected. I know Thailand, Australia, I think Singapore has NPs. Those are the ones nearest to me. Good luck!

Are you a NP student? Because you're who I really want to talk to!!! I just have a couple of questions. Could you please post with some information about how you got into nursing, the education and practices of nursing in your country.
This would be a great help. Thank you for responding, I appreciate it!! Joyce

Hi Sharrie,
Thank you for responding. I am taking a professional issues class for my NP degree and I would like to know what kind of issues there are in a different country. What kind of educational, professional and practical differences there are (ie: treatment of nurses, school, staffing, clientel...). If you could share some of the experiences you have had I would greatly appreciate. Thank you for your time. My direct email is
Thank you again, Joyce

Well I can tell you my experience of my friend who works in a doctors surgery in the community as a NP and she is totally autonomous in her decisions and prescribing. She will confer with the doctors if she is looking for a second opinion but otherwise is responsible for herself and her actions.

She was a RN first and then went to university to do her masters NP in primary care, this link will give you an idea on her course http://www.rdlearning.org.uk/coursedetails.asp?ID=21440
