I am a Filipina but I am not currently residing in the Philippines. And what a coincidence, I'm working in the office too lol . That's the effect of the ever increasing pool of registered nurses in the Philippines. Only a few of my colleagues are actually practicing nursing in the country as most have been working in a different field. The problem is, you need money to get out of the country and it's just so hard to get a job in the Philippines. So, in short most of the graduates are stuck in the Philippines and most are jobless. Sad reality. I'm trying to help the people I know as much as I can but can't help financially

I really miss nursing and I want to go back to my dear profession

Better days will come.

you miss nursing... i miss medicine and nursing.
just to share with you, being complimented as "heaven sent" by one of my patients/clients made me realize how powerful a simple gesture as spending time with an ailing cancer patient is, just talking about things. i was a med student back then and i brought that with me to nursing. i would've done a lot being a physician. not being able to finish med school, i intend and hope to give the same compassion as a nurse. noble profession we chose, we can't practice. it may be a large part about money, but what i said in the interview that got me into med school before: "i wanted to help...", it was sincere. and that's what makes me sad.

but compassion should not just start and end there, eh?

btw, what country are you residing in?

I am in the Middle east now.

Caregiver or Assistant in Nursing you mean? You can do that ,however, you still need a visa that will permit you to work. As far as I know, that would not count as an experience for a registered nurse. But you can work your way to nursing by studying again. You can start as an assistant in nursing then become an enrolled nurse then work your way to become a RN. Or you can start as an assistant in nursing then enroll in a pre-registered nursing degree to become a RN.

But like what I said before, you will still need a visa that will allow you to work and/or study. You can choose to study now and apply for a student's visa but it is really expensive that is why most are aiming for the bridging program which is so so much cheaper. If you really want to study, there's a scholarship program however, you will be required to go back to your own country after you graduate - which I'm sure is not what you want.

hi aelith,
i also plan to work in australia and i have relatives there (in Victoria)
i want to know the exact steps in being an RN in Australia

i pictured it out this way, but im not sure though:
1) Know the state you want to work in (in my case Victoria)

2) Apply for registration in that State's Board of Nurses for assessment
- my question is "can i apply if I don't have any working experience?"
-also, should that working experience be in a tertiary hospital, because that's what i've heard from my friends here
-lastly, i need to pass the ielts before i apply, right?? (actually i think i got to retake the test because i got 6.5 in writing)

3) if they assessed you as qualified they will invite you to take the bridging course

4) Finally, pass the bridging course then you'll become Aussie RN and you can work anywhere in AUSTRALIA, mission accomplished!!!

did i get it right??? i need help i believe heheh
thanks

Hello gast1986

There are two pathways to become a Registered Nurse in Australia or in your case in Victoria.

1. Enroll in a pre-registered Nursing degree in any accredited/recognised program of the Universities by Nurses Board of Victoria.

Link of accredited Nursing courses in Victoria: http://www.nbv.org.au/media/43901/ac...ses%20div1.pdf

Here is another link for accredited Nursing Courses for Overseas Registered Nurses which will lead to registration in the Nurses Board of Victoria:
a. http://www.nbv.org.au/media/43913/ac...%20div%201.pdf

b. http://www.nbv.org.au/media/50024/ac...eas%20div1.pdf

2. Directly applying for Registration in Division 1 at the Nurses Board of Victoria.

2.1. Fill out and print this form: http://www.nbv.org.au/media/43455/in...tion%20app.pdf

2.2. IELTS (Academic) result should have at least an overall band score of 7 with scores no less than the ones indicated below:
2.2.1. Reading & Listening 6.5
2.2.2. Writing & Speaking 7.0

2.3. Prepare all other necessary documents before lodging your application which includes the following:

2.3.1. Evidence of Identity (true copy of Passport or Birth Certificate)
2.3.2. Certified true copy of Transcript
2.3.3. Certified true copy of Diploma
2.3.4. Certificate of initial registration
2.3.5. Verification of Registration (As far as I know, you will need to go to PRC and ask them to send Nurses Board of Victoria the said certification)
2.3.6. Work Statement (if applicable)
N.B. The Nurses Board of Victoria does not specifically require one to have relevant nursing experience however if you do have, you are required to provide evidence of this. It does not specifically say if the experience would only be recognised if it is from a certain type of hospital (e.g. tertiary hospital).
2.3.7. Evidence of Change of Name (if applicable e.g. marriage certificate)
2.3.8. Enclosed Fee (kindly check the website for the updated fee as this change yearly i think)

2.4. Submit the application including all the documents needed and the fee.

2.5. Wait for the Nurses Board of Victoria's decision. It can be either of the following:
2.5.1. You will be granted registration in Division 1.
2.5.2. Your application will be denied.
2.5.3. You will have a conditional offer wherein you will be asked to undergo a bridging program. And upon successful completion of the program, you will be eligible for registration. However, if unsuccessful then you will not be eligible for registration.

N.B. If your application is unsuccessful, you can be given other options to help you be registered in the said state. This will most probably include taking up any of the recognised courses leading to registration in Division 1.

I hope the above helps you. If there's anything that you want to clarify, just tell me. I'll try and provide whatever I know. I have not included specific details about the bridging program in Victoria as you only asked for the process. However, if you want to know more about the bridging program, I can elaborate on my next post.

Hi Aelith

Im planning to take the CAS for Queensland, Oz but has not yet started with the applications. Are you aware of their distance mode program? I learned that they are conducting the Challenge Test here in Phils. as well as the review programs but not quite certain of the location and the review center. Do you have any idea? Another thing is i dont of one person who finished the CAS and successfully employed as a nurse in Queensland. Can you please enlighten me.

Does QNC requires a work experience?

Thank you very much.

wow, this is what im looking for! the to-do-lists hehe
this is extremely useful, really
if only something like this is "stickied", the how-to-apply-for-australia threads would be fewer and informations would be easier to find
i think your post can summarize the 100+ threads in this forum with the same/related inquiries as mine
everything i need to know is here hehe
thanks a lot!
