New USRN, but resume with no experience

  1. 0 Hello, to make a long story short, I am a US citizen who earned my BSN in the Philippines. I recently passed my NCLEX and now readying myself to find a job.

I've been told that new grads and new nurses with no work experience in the field can list their clinical rotations under education as a supplement to the lack of work history. Since I studied in the Philippines, all my clinical rotations were in Philippine institutions. My question is, do you think it would be worthwhile for me to include these in my resume?

You need to be specific that it's your clinical rotation as undergrad. It may cause a confusion. Nonetheless, I think I rather not write it up.

    Hi Denise_amor!
I recently passed the nclex this month and I also having Trouble writing my resume since I don't have work experience in nursing field. I come across to this site

    http://www.nursing.umich.edu/student...sume_guide.pdf

And a lot of research about resume writing... But still I only have related learning experiences (RLE) and work references/employers that are non nursing related.

You can summarize the floors/specialties you have experienced under the section of "education" where you list your bachelor degree, but not as "work experience".. because it's not work experience.

Clinical rotations are NOT work experience and should not be listed as such.

Virtually ALL nurses must do clinicals ( barring excelsior which has come under fire for such issues) so that is a basic part of nursing education. Unless you had a minipracticum in the unit's specific specialty, it is not relevant.

I started working in the healthcare field as a CNA while in nursing school. I actually had potential employers discuss my CNA work experience when I started to apply for nursing jobs. Worth consideration.
