Need Help! Fiancee Visa Question(California)

Hi! Good evening to allnurses members.. I'm an American citizen residing here in California working as a RN.. I just have a question regarding the Fiancee visa.. I decided to arrange the papers of my Fiancee who is currently living in the Philippines right now thru Fiancee Visa.. She graduated from nursing school last May,2009 and I just want to find out..Before she's going to be here in California, does she still need to take her local board exam in Philippines before she can practice to be a RN here in California? What other test does she need to pass before being eligible to be RN here in California?
I know the other things she need just in case she only needs to pass the NCLEX exam (like SSN, working permit and being married when she will be here in USA).. I would really appreciate all your help.. Godbless to all!

she needs to take the local board exam as it is one of the new added requirement being implemented by the california bon. i believe being a graduate here in the philippines and as a foreign educated nurse one must meet the standard of bon. and even though you will be petitioning her under fiance visa , she is still holding the Philippines passport which means there is no reason why she cant take the NLE. i dnt get why your future wife does not want to take the said exam? in hurry of going there? well with the current recession specially in California where the rate of unemployed is extremely high, and being a new gradutae without any work experience , she will be having a hard time landing a job. i suggest she take the nle and at the same time she review for the nlcex .

Regardin NLE in Philippines

I would get her to USA as soon as possible, She will not be able to get any work experience in Philippines as a nurse.

After she enters USA, get married and submit her work permit with your AOS and she should have her Employee Work Authorization card in about 60 days.

The end decision is with the BON and we have had many members state they have had problems with Ca because they did not have a local license. Personally I think they should pass NLE if they can sit it and be qualified in the country they did their nurse training and it does take time for the paperwork to be completed for a visa to the US

Sorry for the late reply.. I just got off from work.. Back to the topic, I want to thank you for your reply tobby_walter.. The reason why my fiancee will not take the NLE because she will not be practicing her profession in the Philippines.. I want to speed up everything because we've been for long distance relationship for 2 years and its very hard for us to stay like this.. In my experience, I didn't take the NLE in the Philippines since I'm a US citizen but I'm just wondering if its going to be the same.. I really appreciate your reply.. Again thank you.

I read this one on the site but one of my coworkers told me that a license is a requirement starting this year but I cannot find the answer to my questions on the net.. That's why I post a thread here so I will find an answer from people who have similar experience with me. Thank you for your reply Itzallgood.. People here are really helpful.

That's the thing I will really do if I find out license is not a requirement here in California.. I just want to make sure she can practice being a nurse here in California without a license from her origin.

Thank you for your reply Silverdragon.. That's true that the end decision is with the BON but I want to find out here in allnurses if someone has experienced what I'm experiencing right now.. Regarding the NLE, my fiancee said that the review for the next NLE had already started.. So I don't want to wait for months or years for her to take the NLE and get experience.. It's only a waste of time and money if she take the NLE then its not a requirement here in California.

To be honest you are better contacting the BRN and getting an answer straight from them, some members here have been lucky and just submitted a letter of explanation others haven't. Even if she doesn't plan on practising in the Philippines I don't think that is a good enough reasons not to sit the exam. I know it can be expensive but there is nothing stopping the boards of nursing in the US require a license in the country you have trained in
