especially if u did asked for a service from an immigration lawyer...

would you know someone
or have done a service with
an immigration lawyer?

how was your experiences with him/her?

Depends on Visa

In some cases a lawyer is just a tick trying to suck blood (money), when the forms can be easily filled out by the petitioner.

Go to USCIS website and see if you can do your own petition

If looking at work visa or immigrant visa via employment then you can't do it on your own.
