Moving from England to America

Hi, I'm Sarah and I've been working as a qualified Mental Health nurse in London for over 2 years now.

I am intending to move to west coast of America as soon as possible but I am totally clueless!!!!

Can anybody help me with some advice? I dont even know where to start and it is very daunting!

I understand I need sit NCLEX exam but I dont know if I can do this from England and I dont know how possible it all all regarding Visas etc.

Any information or advice would be so helpful!

Thank you!!
Sarah

There is a wealth of information on doing this on the International Forum.

There are several posts to read for initial questions that should help clarify the process or at least help you get started. Please read these!!!!!

There are quite literallly thousands of nurses trying to immigrate to the USA to work as a nurse, and a retrogression in place. This means that it may take a very long time. And everyone is looking to shortcut through the process, but it seems that there are none.

AFTER!!!!! reading the information in the International Forum, Silverdragon and Suzanne4 or Lawrence (you will find their posts there) would be your best sources. But please read the info posted first, as it may answer your questions - they get so many questions sent to them.

You may also wish to review the posts on retrogression.

I wish you good luck and welcome.

Hi and welcome to the site

There are plenty of threads to read but suggest the best one to start with is the sticky called Primer to working in the USA. You have to apply to the state board of nursing (BON/BRN) and meet their requirements for foreign trained nurses. However being RMN you may have issues of not enough hours in all areas so best thing to do would be CES full course by course from CGFNS and get your transcripts assessed. If short on hours they will have to be made up before any BON/BRN will allow you to sit the exam. Once you have gone through the process and ok'd to sit NCLEX then you can take it in London and have to pay pearsonvue $350 I think is the price but all information is on their website but do not recommend you register with them until you get the ok to sit exam and pearsonvue have a 12 month validity on account and approx application process for licensure is 4-12 months depending on BON and CGFNS. Once you have gone through all that, find an employer and they file I140 you then wait for it to be approved and depending on which center it ends up in takes between 6-12 months and then you are caught up in retrogression. There is no quick way to move to the US and work, sorry.
